We no longer work in one state but QB keeps filing quarterly tax reports.  How do I stop this?

It's good to see you here in the Community space, casagrande. I'm here to help you make your payroll taxes inactive.

But before inactivating your payroll tax in the Payroll Settings, ensure that there are no active employees that are currently assigned to the work location.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Payroll Settings.
  2. Under Company and Account, click Work Locations.
  3. Select the exact state, then mark the Inactive checkbox.
  4. Click Save.

Furthermore, track your employee and payroll expenses in QBO by running payroll reports. This way, you'll have an overview of your employees' contributions, deductions, and taxes.

Let me know if you still have questions about payroll taxes. I'm always here to help you out. Take care and have a great rest of the day!

There are no active employees assigned to the work location.

Thank you, @casagrande, for confirming that there are no active employees assigned to the work location you want to deactivate. This means that you can proceed with the steps provided by my colleague MelroseV to set the state as inactive.

In case you encounter any issues while marking the state as inactive, you can delete an unused work location.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings, then Payroll Settings.
  2. From Work locations, click Edit.
  3. Select Edit on the work location you want to remove.
  4. Click Delete work location, then Save.

If you're still unable to delete the other work location, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They can review your payroll subscription and assist you in deleting the work location.

Moreover, learn how to set up payroll taxes in a new state and get answers to your payroll tax payment and filing inquiries.

Please keep me updated on any additional concerns you may have regarding state taxes. I'm always available to answer your questions. Keep safe, and have a great day ahead.
