Merging Duplicate Contractors

Hello,

I am trying to merge 2 contractors (1 is a duplicate under a slightly different name) into 1 as I realized when beginning to prepare 1099 forms that there is a duplicate for the same person. I tried following the guidance on the topic found here:https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/manage-customers/merge-duplicate-accounts-customers-vendors-online/L5AOyW9kw_US_en_US?uid=lr9shsn2&_its=JTdCJTIydmlkJTIyJTNBJTIyMjdhMzllZDUtMDA3Yi00YTgxLWJjYTktOGMyNTczZmM3MzRkJTIyJTJDJTIyc3RhdGUlMjIlM0ElMjJybHR%2BMTcwNTAxMjYzMH5sYW5kfjJfOTU1NThfc2VvXzc2M2ZmMjkwNWMzNzM1ZDRjNzg4YTFkZWM2MjM4ODA2JTIyJTJDJTIyc2l0ZUlkJTIyJTNBMTUyNjMlN0Q%3D

But when I do the steps outlined it doesn't give me the option to merge the contractors into one, it just won't save and gives me an error code that another contractor/vendor is already using that name and that I need to change it.

Can anyone help me out on how to fix this?

Hello there, @AV1234.

I appreciate you for following the steps in the support article on merging duplicate accounts.

One of the possible reasons why you're unable to successfully merge duplicate contractors is that both of them have transactions. Before merging them, make sure the duplicate doesn't have any transactions linked to it. Once you've confirmed this, you can perform the steps in this article: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, here's an article on preparing and filing your contractors' 1099s with QuickBooks: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Contractor Payments.

Keep in touch if you have any other questions about merging duplicates in QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you out. Take care.
