If I migrate from desktop pro plus with enhanced payroll after the last pay date of 2022 but before the end of the year, will online essentials with core payroll pay 4th quarter taxes and file 4th quarter and year end forms?  Exam 941, W-2’s, etc.

Hi there, kutarheel. Having us process your tax payments for you can be a huge time saver and helps to make sure everything is compliant.

Unfortunately, the effect of the migration isn't retroactive. We're unable to automatically pay and file your federal and state payroll taxes if you choose to change your payroll plan after the last pay date of 2022. You'll have to manually pay your 4th taxes and file your Form 941/W-2 first in QuickBooks Desktop before transferring your company file to the online version.

To e-pay your payroll taxes:

  1. Go to Employees, then choose Payroll Center.
  2. Head to the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. In the Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section, select the liability to pay, and click the View/Pay button.
  4. Review the details, hit E-Pay.
  5. In the E-Pay Login window, enter your 4-digit EFTPS PIN and other login information.
  6. Hit Submit, then Close.

To e-file your federal forms:

  1. Go to Employees, then select Payroll Tax Forms and W-2s.
  2. Choose Process Payroll Forms.
  3. Click the federal form you need to file from the list and hit Create Form.
  4. Choose the form filing period, then select OK.
  5. Review each part of the form.
  6. Select Submit Form, then E-file.
  7. Enter your 10-digit pin and follow onscreen instructions.

You’ll get an email confirmation within 24-48 hours. To check the progress, please refer to this article: Check e-file or e-pay status.

I also encourage checking our QBDT Year-End Guide to learn how to close out the previous year smoothly and prepare for the new one.
