Military spouse pays taxes in a different state than where she lives and works

In QuickBooks Online, we suggest consulting an accountant or a tax advisor to help you manage employees living or working in different states. Once they're in a different state, it impacts your state withholding or unemployment payroll taxes, which we need a recommendation from your accountant. 

If you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll Full Service and need to add a work location in a new state, you'll have to contact our Payroll Support Team to help you with the setup. Here's how:

1. Go to Help at the upper-right corner.
2. Click Contact us.
3. Enter a short description of your concern. 
4. You can then choose how you want to start a conversation by choosing Chat, Callback, Call us.

On the other hand, if you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite, you can add a work location in a different or the same state by following the steps below.

1. Select the Workers menu.
2. Within the Employees tab, select the employee's name.
3. Select Edit ✎ next to Employment.
4. Select the Work location dropdown and select New Work Location.
5. Enter the work location address.
6. Select OK and then Done.
