Question

My husband and I, both employees of our business, use QBO Payroll. He received two, identical W-2 forms. Will the IRS see this as double wages? I received only 1 form.

I'm delighted to have you here today, @pam42. I'll share some insights about receiving two identical W-2 forms and if IRS considers this as double wages or not.

Before we dig deeper into your query, please know that there are things we need to check to ensure that we're on the right track. Please know that if the identical W-2 forms your husband received were issued in error, you'll need to perform amendments or corrections to prevent IRS from seeing it as double wages.

If this is the case, I recommend checking this article to learn more about how to fix errors with your W-2 forms: Fix an incorrect W-2 and W-3.

In case everything checks out on the W-2 forms, then Yes. IRS will account for it as double income or wage. You'll then want to reach out to your accountant or contact IRS to re-confirm the data you received. If you don't have an accountant, I can help you find one. See this page to get an accountant that's qualified enough to help you handle your business: Find a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

To add up, I've got you this article that contains answers to your W-2 related questions: Get answers to your W-2 questions.

You can also visit this page if you'd like to print a copy of your W-2s: Print your W-2 and W-3 forms.

@pam42, Thanks for doing business with QuickBooks. I'll be happy to help you again if you have any additional concerns or need further guidance performing specific tasks inside your company file. Take care, and have a nice day!
