PA State Employee Contribution Unemployment Insurance rate incorrect

I need to change the PA State Employee Contribution rate for Unemployment insurance.

The rate for 2023 went from .06% to .07%

Quick books will not allow me to change that rate as it says the rate is updated by Quick Books only

I have run payroll updates a few times and need to run payroll this week for the first time in 2023, but it will deduct the incorrect rate from Employee

I was able to adjust the Employer rate with my new rate

Hey there, @Waskos

Let me share some insights about employees' unemployment rate change in 2023 for the state of Pennsylvania (PA) in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll, so you can manage your taxes accordingly.

For now, the current tax table (22301) hasn't included the unemployment rate change for the state of Pennsylvania in 2023. However, rest assured that the rate change will reflect on the next latest payroll update in QBDT Payroll.

QuickBooks will automatically adjust the contribution amount on your next payroll if you've already generated paychecks. You can tell your employees in advance that their PUC withholding will be slightly larger in that pay run. However, if you have manually edited the amounts in their previous checks, QuickBooks should detect this and not do a catch-up or adjustment.

If you wish to find more information on the latest payroll update (22301) and earlier releases, you can read this article: Get the latest payroll news and updates in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Also, you may want to access your state agency website to learn more about unemployment compensation and other taxes: Pennsylvania Office of Unemployment Compensation.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Take care!

When will the rate be corrected?

Those are great answers for those using Quickbooks Desktop. What about the Quickbooks Online version. How/When does that get updated for 2023?

Let me provide some information as to how and when SUI gets updated in QuickBooks Online, lbs666.

The Pennsylvania employee State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate has increased effective January 1, 2023, and is automatic once the rate is already available in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you've already created a paycheck for 2023, QuickBooks will create an adjustment to correct the overall tax calculation for the year for any employee with checks calculated at the old 2022 tax rate.

After the adjustment is created, your employee's year-to-date tax calculation will catch up on their next check for 2023.

QuickBooks will update this post as soon as the rate has been updated in the payroll.

Furthermore, once states already send out the updated SUI rate notices, learn how to update your rate in QBO. To give you detailed steps with the process, here's an article that you can check: Update Your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Rate.
