Regular work week is 40 hours

I offer comp time in leu of overtime

How do I set this up?

I.e. if employee works 44 hours a week. 4 hours is added to paid time off and the rest is paid as regular pay.

Surely there is a way to do this?

Hey there, @Sonofshoe

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the QuickBooks Community. I hope you're enjoying the day so far.

You can manually record the PTO hours in QuickBooks Online. I've included the steps below to do record the hours.

  1. Go to the Payroll, then select Employees.
  2. Choose the employee’s name.
  3. In the Pay section, select Edit.
  4. Under How much do you pay [employee]? tap on Edit or + Add additional pay types (like overtime and sick pay).
  5. Next to Paid time off, Unpaid time off, Sick Pay, Vacation Pay or Holiday Pay, hit the dropdown menu and choose Add new [time off pay] policy.
  6. Complete the on-screen fields to create your policy, then select Save.
  7. Click Save, then Done.

However, for further advice about the best way to record comp time in leu of overtime, I recommend consulting with your accountant. Your accountant will know the best route to take based on your business needs. If you don't have an accountant, don't sweat. You can find one here in our Resource Center
