Hello there, @gv5.
QuickBooks Payroll will print on blank paper or preprinted QuickBooks-compatible check paper. With that, the system lets you print checks on blank paper or with pre-printed checks.
You need to have your payroll set up before you can print a paycheck. Here's how:
- Go to the Gear icon.
- Select Payroll settings under Your Company.
- Under Preferences, click Paycheck Printing.
- You can select either Plain paper stubs (to accompany handwritten checks) or Preprinted QuickBooks®-compatible voucher check stock option. Tip: If this is the first time you're printing checks, select Align check.
- Click OK to reflect the changes.

If using pre-printed checks, it will ask if you wish to print one stub or two stubs. Make your selection and click OK. QuickBooks print checks for employees who receive checks, and pay stubs for those who receive direct deposit.
Once done, follow these steps to print them.
- Go to the Payroll menu.
- Within the Employees tab, select Paycheck List.
- Select the paychecks you'd like to print.
- Then, select Print.
