Question

Pay rates with 4 decimal places

How can I enter a Pay rate for an employee in payroll with more than 2 decimal places? I used to be able to do this until an update a few weeks ago. My employees get paid per class (not per hour) so I calculate the actual hourly rate every payroll and to get it exactly correct I need to be able to enter 4 decimal places. But with the update the system rounds it to 2 places.

I can share some information about adding pay rates to your employees in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @helen77.

When adding your employee's pay rate, the system will round it up to two decimal places. The option to enter the pay rate up to four decimal places would be a great addition to our current features, so I'll keep that in note.

I also encourage you to leave the feedback from within the product. Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Provide your product suggestion.
  3. Click on Next to submit feedback.

You can check out this article for more information about providing feedback to improve the program: How do I submit feedback?.

For more information about adding, removing, and renaming a pay type from your employee, see this article for detailed guidance: Add or change pay types in Online Payroll.

Once you're done, here's an article that can guide you in paying employees for both paper checks and direct deposit in QuickBooks Online: Process or run payroll

I'm always here if you still have questions about adding your employee's pay rates. Keep safe and have a great rest of the day!
