All of our employees are currently participating in direct deposit.  We will be hiring several new employees and an I anticipate that a number of them will still want a paper check.  Will I be able to process payroll for direct deposit and print payroll checks for the rest?

Let me share some information on how direct deposit (DD) works in QuickBooks Online (QBO), RogerB4.

Yes, you can process payroll for direct deposit and print payroll checks for the rest of the employees. We'll just need to set up and add employees to DD. Once you set up your company payroll for direct deposit, the next paycheck you create for the employee will be direct deposit. Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Choose your employee.
  3. From Payment method, click Start or Edit.
  4. From the Payment method dropdown, select Direct deposit.
  5. Choose a Direct deposit method (Splits can be done as a dollar amount or as a percentage.):
  • Direct deposit to one account
  • Direct deposit to two accounts
  • Direct deposit with balance as a check

6.Enter the routing and account numbers from the employee's voided check and select Done.

Next, you’ll need to create your direct deposit or paper paychecks, and then send them to us for processing. Just follow the steps and details in this article: Create and run your payroll.
