I processed payroll and the information is correct.  When I paid my employee the check was written for the wrong amount (shorted).  The check has cleared my bank.  I wrote my employee a check for the shorted amount.  How do I enter this so my bank account can reconcile correctly.

You can exclude the cleared transaction from your bank and manually clear the transactions on your register, lauri0516.  I'll share further details below to ensure we reconcile them correctly.

Since you've corrected the shorted amount via written checks, exclude the transaction that syncs to your bank account. This way, it won't appear in any account registers or financial reports moving forward. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. On the For Review tab, locate and tick the checkbox of the transactions to exclude.
  3. Choose Exclude.

Next, follow the steps below to mark the transaction as Cleared (C):

  1. Navigate to Transactions, then Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the bank account and select the View Register.
  3. Filter the funnel accordingly to do the reconciliation process seamlessly, then click the Apply button.
  4. Find the transaction and tap the checkmark ✔ column to put a to tentatively reconcile, then Save.

Additionally, seeking an accountant's help for further guidance is a great help. They can provide methods to ensure the accuracy of your books.

However, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team if you're unable to get rid of the paychecks.
