Payroll error - Need GJ entry advise
I did a pay advance through payroll for $250.00. After taxes, the amount came to $203.50. I then went to our bank and did an ACH to the employee for $200 only, in error. (The employee kept telling me they needed $200 and I think that is why it was in my mind.)
So now Quickbooks shows $203.50 coming out of our bank account back in December but it actually was just $200. The employee has already gotten their W-2 so I can not change the payment record for the employee. I thought I could do a Journal Entry giving $3.50 to deduce the balance on his pay advance as if he paid the 3.50 towards it, and do a 3.50 credit to the bank account in QuickBooks to offset the amount from -203.50 and a +3.50 to equal the 200.00 paid.
Does this sound correct in my thought process? As I do not want to affect anything tax-wise or payroll-wise for December 2022. The JE would be dated 12/31/2022.
