payroll for one employee

hello,

i have desktop quickbooks pro. i was setup as a sole proprietor. my accountant advised me to setup an LLC and make the s corporation election. i setup a new company in quickbooks for the LLC s corporation. i am the only employee. it seems to me that i have pay for quickbooks payroll to setup anything payroll related to pay myself? that costs $50 a month. am i missing that there is another way to setup payroll for just one person?

QuickBooks Desktop payroll subscriptions are usage-based. This means that you pay a monthly fee for updates, automatic tax calculation, tax forms, and payroll support. Alternatively, you can activate the manual payroll option. This will allow you to set up your employees and create paychecks at no extra cost. However, you'll be the one to calculate the tax and file the forms outside of QuickBooks. 

 

Let me share these steps with you:

 

  1. Go to the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
  2. Select Payroll & Employees, then proceed to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Features section, check the Full payroll and the Manual Payroll checkboxes.
  4. Click Next and then Activate in the confirmation screen.
  5. Select OK to apply the changes.
