Payroll Liabilities

Hello,

We do not process payroll through QuickBooks, but when a payroll deduction (child support) is withdrawn from our bank account, I'm unsure which category to assign it to.

 

Can someone help me?

The payment for child support should be recorded as a reduction of the child support liability that was created when you made the entry to record payroll - similar to income tax withholding.  The withholding is recorded as a liability on the payroll date and the payment is a reduction in that liability as of the date of the payment to the child support agency.
