Payroll not working

I've been trying to run my payroll since last week. When I click on "Run Payroll" and select "Every month in advance" it pulls up the screen with our pastor's name but the screen is inactive. The top box says "Name (0 of 1)" and the box in front of the pastor's name is grayed out. What do I need to do?

Welcome to the Community space, covenant. I'll be glad to help you figure out why you can't run payroll for a specific employee in QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP).

We can check if the pastor's status is inactive, which may cause the screen to be inactive when running payroll for every month in advance. To check the status, you can follow these steps:

  1. Login to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Payroll tab, and select Employees.
  3. Select the specific employee.
  4. Under the Status column, check the status if it's inactive.

If the employee is inactive, we need to make them active to run payroll successfully:

  1. Click the employee's name.
  2. Select the Employment Details, and click Edit.
  3. From the Status dropdown, choose Active.
  4. Click Save.

We can process payroll for that employee for every month in advance now:

  1. Go to the Payroll tab and select Employees.
  2. Click Run Payroll.
  3. Select Every Month in Advance, and click Continue.
  4. Put a checkmark on the employee's box.
  5. Click Preview Payroll.

Furthermore, you can learn how to create a payroll summary report to track your employee payments by reading this article: Run Payroll Report.
