Hello,

A client of mine continues to be prompted to with an Intuit Payroll Services prompt every time they open a Company File. The prompt says "Now that you have upgraded, QuickBooks most go online to verify the status of your payroll subscription." I cannot for the life of me get this to go away. They do no use QB Payroll Services and have not in many, many years. They are also now receiving a second prompt/error that I have attached.

Does anyone know how to get this prompt to go away? Any insight would be appreciated!

Hello @charlieDP3,

I appreciate the screenshots you've added about the error. I can help you remove the prompt when opening a company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

The message prompt occurs when the system recognizes a payroll service key within the company file. Since they don't use the payroll service, I recommend reviewing the setup.

Let's ensure the service key section is blank. If there's a subscription showing in that window, please remove it. Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Back up your company file.
  3. Click the Employees tab at the top menu bar.
  4. Hover your cursor to My Payroll Service, then select Manage Service Key
  5. In the QuickBooks Service Keys window, go to the Service Name column and select to highlight the payroll subscription.
  6. Choose Remove or press Alt + 0 (zero) on your keyboard.
  7. Hit Yes to confirm.

Also, make sure your QuickBooks is updated to the latest release version. It will help ensure the software is up-to-date and have the latest features and fixes.

Please follow the steps:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab.
  4. Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  5. Hit Get Updates.
  6. Close and re-open QuickBooks.

In the Desktop version, you can track payroll manually without a subscription. For more details about how to configure your preferences, check out this link: Set up manual payroll without a subscription in QuickBooks Desktop.

You're always welcome here in the Community. If you need further assistance getting rid of the payroll error, let me know. I'd be happy to lend a hand.

Thanks, I've confirmed that the service key section is blank.

For what it is worth. I had to update QuickBooks manually by downloading the latest release from the web and installing it that way. Whenever I try to update within the app I get an error, including when I try to "Reset Update."
