Hi,

My Employee is receiving SSP for the month and therefore has not earnt enough to pay a pension, when I check the Pension fillings tab in Core payroll it says that the submission (to NEST) is rejected, the explanation shown is that I haven't entered a reason , has anyone else had this problem or knows how or where to enter a reason for partial or non payment of contributions within the payroll setting . I have contacted the QuickBooks help line but they hadn't seen this problem before. Can anyone point me in the correct direction to resolve the issue.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, HeatherB9. I appreciate your detailed information.

If you're referring to automated Nest submissions in QuickBooks Payroll, there's a few reasons a submission could be rejected:

  • Before starting with Nest, be sure to set up any necessary workplace pensions.
  • Have all of your employees enrolled and registered with Nest.
  • Confirm all details match what's on file with Nest, for example, employee NI numbers, first/last names, payroll IDs, payroll schedules, contribution amounts, etc.

In the event you're encountering a "You haven't entered a reason for partial or non-payment of contributions. This field is mandatory when the member's contributions are zero. Please enter a reason and try again." message, you'll need to enter a reason for partial or non-payment of contributions in the schedule from your Manage contributions page.

This can be found while signed in to the Nest account. If your member didn't earn enough to pay contributions, you can choose the Member has insufficient earnings reason. In the event they've been made redundant, left their job, or asked you to stop contributions for them, you can select your No further contributions payable reason.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with Nest which may come in handy moving forward:
