I am working to put in prior payroll amounts and I get an error message. It will not let me go forward. Anyone else had this happen? How can I move forward?

Hi there, CCrain.

If you already created any paychecks, we were unable to make changes to your pay history. This maybe the possible reason why you received an error message when attempting to enter the prior payroll in QuickBooks.

If that's the case, I suggest reaching out to the Customer support team. This way, one of our agents will help you create a payroll correction to ensure your payroll data is accurate. Here's how:

  1. Click Help inside QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter the description box, then click Let's talk.
  4. Select either Start messaging or Get a callback

But, if payroll hasn't been run yet, an error message appears. We can perform some troubleshooting steps. Occasionally an overloaded browser prevents QuickBooks Online from working correctly. If QuickBooks won't open, consider opening it in a private or incognito window to rule out a browser issue. This can help us get rid of any cache-related issues that might have caused the issues. Use these shortcut keys to open it:

  • Google Chrome: Press CTRL + Shift + N.
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Press CTRL + Shift + P.

If the steps above work, I suggest clearing your browser's cache to boost browser-related issues. Some stored data on your browser can impact the data being transmitted, thus causing some unusual responses.

In case private browsing doesn't work, I'd recommend using different browsers. They'll provide you with the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks. For more details, please see this article: System Requirements For QuickBooks.

Additionally, I recommend the following resource, which has video tutorials to help a user learn about entering prior payroll in QuickBooks: Set up a prior payroll for QuickBooks Online Payroll.
