Question

printing payroll reports QBO

I've used QB desktop and now QB online, but have never had issues printing "payroll summary by Employee Reports" until now.  The "printer friendly" QB Online report gives me a cropped off version of my full report despite manipulation of the printer settings, (I've had others attempt it as well).  Is there a trick to this I've missed? Landscape printing does not fix it, neither does changing printers.

I'm glad that you've reached the Community forum, EKH3.

I appreciate for letting me know in advance that you've tried using the landscape orientation when printing reports in QBO. May I ask if you've done checking the margin setup of your browser's printer setup? It's one of the aspects that can be caused an issue when printing QuickBooks reports, including the Payroll Summary by Employee report.

We can try accessing and printing this through an incognito window. Then, let's see if you're able to print this report appropriately. If it worked, you can clear the cache of your main browser. It'll remove the history and help us not to experience the unexpected behavior during the printing process. Another option is to use a compatible browser in QBO.

One more thing, we can export it to Excel and print there. Open the said report, click the drop-down arrow at the upper-right corner. Then, select Export to Excel

Let me know how it works for you. I'll keep an eye on your reply, want to make sure you're able to print them successfully. Keep safe!

Did this issue ever get resolved?  I'm having problems printing the Payroll Summary by Employee Report.  The print version is really wonky ... splitting employee information between two pages, making it really messy to read.  Ugggh ... tried landscape and portrait view and different sizes ... Am I missing something??  Brand new to QB online payroll and reallllly having second thoughts!

I can see how important it is to obtain a clear copy of your specific report in QuickBooks Online Payroll. I'll help you fix this, @blamar777.

Since you’ve already tried printing in both landscape and portrait modes, and the issue persists, it's possible that a browser-related problem is at play. Browsers use cache to optimize loading speeds, but over time, this cache can accumulate and lead to unexpected behavior within the application.

To fix this, log in to your QBO account using an incognito or private browser window. This will enable you to work with a clean slate. Please use these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Then, print the report again. If it's successful, clear your browser's cache to remove specific issues and help the program run efficiently. Also, you can use other devices and supported browsers to ensure everything works as expected.

If you have followed the steps outlined above and the issue persists, I recommend checking your printer. In some cases, printer-related problems can cause printed reports to appear messy or unclear.

Moreover, you can learn how to memorize your reports for future convenience, in case you need to generate the same report later.

Let us know if you have further questions about managing your reports in QBO. We'll be right here to help you anytime.
