QB Enterprise Contractor Payroll

We use QB Enterprise Contractor and previous to the July update I was able to add an employee with their ITIN number and then update it once they brought me their SSN. Since the update I am no longer able to add them with an ITIN number. It tells me that it is not valid. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi @Accountant1233,

 

I have some information about adding ITIN in QuickBooks Desktop. You'll want to make sure you're using the correct format when entering ITIN. That should include the dashes.

 

If you've verified the format, try running reboot.bat. 

 

Contact our Customer Care Support if you're still getting the same result. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Help at the top menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us. It'll route you to our support page where you can select a topic for your concern.
  3. After selecting a topic, go to the second section.
  4. Click how you want to reach them and enter the necessary details.

That is not correct. Which you would know if you had tried it. You do not need to include the dashes when entering an SSN. QuickBooks automatically reformats whatever you enter in the SSN field as an SSN. For example, you can enter any 9 digit number and it will automatically format it as an SSN, or even an ill formatted number like 12-3456789 and it will do the same.

 

Basically, there is no way to enter an SSN in the wrong format. Which you would know if you had tried it.

What type of payroll subscription type do you have? This sounds like something included with Assisted Payroll.

 

In any case, you should never add a person to your payroll that only has an ITIN because an ITIN does not give the person the right to work in the United States, and so you cannot legally employ or pay them.  A person must have an SSN, which grants them that privilege.
