Question

QBO - entity with MED but no SSI?

I am setting up QuickBooks Online payroll for an entity that has PERS... what that means in terms of payroll is that they are not subject to SSI, but are subject to Medicare.  Unfortunately it looks like you can only eliminate both of those!  Is there a way to set the SSI rate to zero, or something like that?  As it is I've set them up as exempt from both SSI and Med, and set up a payroll deduction for Med - but that means I will have to manually do payroll tax deposits and quarterly reports, rather than using the payroll system we are paying for to do it!  How can I better manage this?

Thanks for visiting the Community, DalGal.

Currently, this type of employee setup is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. The Medicare and Social Security taxes are combined into one option.

I understand that your employee is not subject to Social Security. To help improve your experience in QuickBooks Online, I encourage sending feedback to our Product Development Team. Your suggestions and ideas will help determine what features our customers need the most. Here's how to do it:

  1. Sign to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon at the top, then choose Feedback.
  3. Enter the new features and enhancements you would like us to add in the description box.
  4. Hit Next to send feedback.

In the meantime, you'll want to consider visiting our QuickBooks App Center to find a third-party payroll management app that best suits your business needs. You can also search for an app within your QBO account. I'll show you how:

  1. Sign to your QBO account.
  2. Select Apps from the sidebar menu,
  3. Go to the Finds App tab.
  4. Enter "payroll" in the search bar or lick the Browse category button to filter the results.

I've also added some articles that will help you manage your employees in QuickBooks Online:
