Question

QBO stole money from me

  • QBO withdrew $700 from my bank, indicating it was for state unemployment taxes
    • Issue 1 - the amount is 5x what it normally is and what was actually owed based on the state calculation
    • Issue 2 - the state never received this money (I called and they confirmed, and the website also does not show this payment)
  • A month later I manually paid the $120 owed for state income tax
  • I called QB for a refund, but they insist they paid the state so they will not refund the money
  • We confirmed my company information is entered correctly (no recent changes and no issue w/ other state or federal automated payments)
  • QB said if the state issues an unpaid notice then they can take further action.  The state WONT issue an unpaid notice, because nothing has been unpaid, I made the actual necessary payment once it was clear QB had not sent my money.  So, how do I get my refund?
  • Every time I call in I provide the ticket number yet the agent seems confused and starts troubleshooting the situation from scratch and I have to wait 30 minutes for them to repeat the same actions over again before promising they will now escalate it to the right person.  I can't keep doing this!

We value the time and effort you've made to sort out your tax concern and refund, jacksbar. I'm here to help ensure that your concerns are addressed through the appropriate channel.

Billing, subscription, and refund issues related to accounts need special care and real-time teamwork to resolve.  Thus, I still recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team for further assistance. In case you receive an IRS or state tax notice of discrepancy, here's a link that contains solutions to fix it: Send in your payroll tax notice.

You may encounter overpayment or underpayment on your payroll taxes in the future. I've got some articles that outline the steps on how to handle them:

1) I have already spent numerous hours speaking to the Payroll team.  They have no remaining action to take on their end according to them, they are sorry the government does not recognize the money has been received and they dont intend to give it back to me

2) As I said, there will be no tax notice, because we paid the $100 that was due separately since the $700 QB stole from us was not paid to the state

Any further guidance besides contacting a lawyer?  Anyone else in the community have to go the route of a small claims case that may have some guidance?

I am going through the same thing. QB withdrew $1200.00+  from my account 7/15/23 with 7/19/24 as the scheduled date to pay  2024 2nd Q UI Tax. UI has not received the money- due 7/31/24. I will copy and paste your original complaint with a few edits because it is so close to my experience.

  • I have called and chatted with QB for over 10 hours for a refund, but they insist they paid the state so they will not refund the money.
  • My company information is confirmed and is entered correctly (no recent changes and no issue w/ other state or federal automated payments)
  • QB said if the state issues an unpaid notice then they can take further action.  The state WON'T issue an unpaid notice (Same here), because nothing has been unpaid, I made the actual necessary payment once it was clear QB had not sent my money.  So, how do I get my refund? They have not looked into it after several requests and when I contact the Accounting dept.  I get  this message:
  • We received the historical payroll information document you sent.
We reviewed it and unfortunately, we are unable to resolve this issue.
This is not a payroll tax that Intuit pays or files on your behalf.
Please forward the notice to the individual or service that is responsible for processing this type of notifications for your company.
  • Quickbooks  removed the money from my account as shown on my bank statement.

  • Every time I call in I provide the ticket number yet the agent seems confused and starts troubleshooting the situation from scratch and I have to wait 30 minutes for them to repeat the same actions over again before promising they will now escalate it to the right person.  I can't keep doing this!
