I can use Quickbooks for writing checks, making deposits or reconciling but when I try to open payroll, it immediately crashes and shuts down.

Having the same problem in QB Enterprise 23. It started when the 22312 payroll update was available. Tried to download the payroll update. It gave an OOPS error and now it crashes each time when clicking on Employee or Payroll center.

My QB Desktop 2023 is having the same issue - it crashes any time I try to open Employee Center or Payroll Center.  Were you able to get your problem rectified?

I'm sorry you've had to go through this, leigh6. I'm stepping into the thread to give updates on this issue and some workarounds you can perform to access the Payroll or Employees Center seamlessly.

I want you to know that our engineers are actively working together and prioritizing this issue to gather a resolution as quickly as possible. While they're doing that, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support to have your name added to the list of affected users in the ongoing investigation. Once added, you'll automatically receive email notifications of the latest updates.

To contact:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Click on QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us from the Help menu.
  3. Tap on Contact Us.
  4. Enter a short description of your concern, then choose a way to connect with support.

While the investigation is ongoing, you may take the following actions to get back up and run your employees and payroll data:

  1. Use a different Intuit ID to log into the QBDT file before attempting to run payroll. You can do it through the My Company menu.
  2. Delete the QBW.ini from the computer running the QBDT software.
  3. Perform a Clean uninstall/reinstall of the QBDT software.

You can read this article for further information while working with your payroll entries in QBDT: Create and run your payroll.

When you're ready to pay and file your payroll taxes, use the following resources as a guide:

Please be patient while our team works to find a solution to this behavior. If you have other QuickBooks or payroll questions in mind, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!

I am tired of "our Engineers are working on it" and I'm tired of seeing "workarounds."  We use Enterprise Solutions 23.0 (multiple users).  We have 140 employees that we pay weekly.  We have multi-state payroll.  We use Desktop.  This all happened when Quickbooks put out Payroll update 22312.  IT IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE.  Workarounds are not acceptable - what happens to THAT when it is fixed?!?!.  YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND so quit saying you do.  Quit sending info that "in the meantime, you can read these articles about your payroll processes."  It is obvious that YOU DON'T EVEN USE YOUR OWN SOFTWARE or this would not have ever happened.  I agree that NO ONE AT QUICKBOOKS SHOULD GET PAID UNTIL THIS IS 100% RESOLVED!  THEN, and only THEN, will you "understand."  Again, I'd like to apologize for my tone but doing so minimizes the urgency and impact of this situation.  We are actively pursuing another accounting software company.

I am having the same problem with Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 with respect to not being able to do payroll.  I have tried to download the new version of Enterprise, but it will not download.  We need to do payroll and cannot get it to work!
