I have never been as disappointed in a product.  It costs 3x what the desktop did and is completely lame, particularly for payments.

Switch to QB Desktop Pro/Premier and/or use a 3rd party payment processor. Otherwise, buy a 3rd party service to convert your data to another accounting app.

Sadly, my experience has been about the same.  I understand some of these "changes" are meant to be quite helpful.  I had used Desktop for 20+ years.  So, I'm thinking that this is just a matter of giving it more time.  I've been on QBO for about 6-8 months.  There are some real advantages.  My payroll taxes are paid automatically for me now, I've connected my bank account, so reconciliation is faster than it had been.

I don't like the fact that I cannot see the notes or previous billings from a particular vendor or the invoices and notes for a customer when I'm doing billing, but maybe there is a way.  Since I have a business to run, I don't have a lot of time to spend looking at my accounting software, but so far everything is taking a bit longer than it did in Desktop.

Desktop version is now subscription based, and it's VERY expensive compared to the QBO version, so I am dealing with this as I have needs.  If I have a need, I find out how to handle it.  If I can't figure it out, I hop on with support.  So far, they have been great!

I agree, QBO was designed with the complexity to run a Lemonade Stand or similar business. I have made so many concessions and workarounds just to try to get it to work with my small business since the writing is on the wall for QB Desktop. The list of things you can no longer do in QBO are astounding. So far these are some of the things I've discovered and I'm just starting to try to set it up:

-can't delete the default accounts in your Chart of Accounts. The most you can do is rename them but they will clutter up your Chart of Accounts forever

-can't create sub-accounts without finding some obscure feature

-can't delete products or services that you set up, again can only make them inactive or rename them

-when you set up Customers, it now revolves around the individual contact (First Name Last Name) even if you do B2B with faceless companies

-can't change the account types or sub-types or even add or edit any. What you get to work with are QB's ridiculous defaults

-can't create sub products or services anymore, now you have to set up a Category which cannot have things imported, good luck if you sell a lot of different items or types of services

Everytime you need to figure something out, Support will stall you for an hour, make you authenticate and verify your account "supposedly for your security" even when there is nothing to secure (i.e. how do I print this page?). Then they will ultimately tell you (after wasting an hour or more of your time) that QBO cannot do that and they recommend you go find the button to request it as a feature update. Which after searching online you realize this is what they have been telling people for years, and it basically means "F-you, nobody ever reads or does anything with those feature requests which are the same requests over and over year after year".

WORST. SYSTEM. EVER. The migration from desktop screwed everything up. All estimates linked to invoices were severed and CLOSED! I'm a loooongggg time user of the desktop version and familiar enough with accounting that I SHOULD be able to navigate my way through the system. Unintuitive, slow, overly complicated and miserable customer support. And, of course, like sooo many other systems, all SaaS to money-grub more out of their (previously) loyal users.

BRING BACK DESKTOP! At LEAST let us continue to use the last version and turn on the bank account imports! Stop wasting my time!

Do you have QB Desktop 2020 Pro/Premier?

It veers between slow and cumbersome to absolutely the worst piece of software ever invented.  In the time it takes me to enter a quarter's worth of information I could have entered a whole years of info onto a spreadsheet.   I've tried everything suggested and it is still like being in the steam age - every other piece of software on my PC works perfectly well.  Obviously they are not investing the resources into the server and instead just creaming off the profits.  No surprise there.

I waste so much time on Quickbooks Online.. I'm on the phone with customer support NOW!

The desktop version worked great for me for over 10 years.. Intuit in a money grab scheme forced Desktop users to change to Online and discontinued Desktop.

If anyone knows a good alternative before renewal date please reply.. I'll researching an alternative
