Quickbooks time is telling me an employee has a missing pay rate and to finish set up, but when I go to finish set up, the pay rate is there and selected.

Whenever I go to run payroll, one particular team member always has an alert saying missing pay rate, finish set up.  I go to finish set up, and the pay rate is there and active.  I redo it, change it, put it back, save, import, same problem! Help!

Hi there, eat3. I understand how frustrating and confusing it can be to deal with these alerts when running payroll. This can disrupt your payroll process and cause confusion. Let's work together to address this issue.

Dealing with this type of error can be confusing. The reason why this error keeps on showing could be related to a synchronization issue between QuickBooks Time and QuickBooks Online Payroll. To learn more about the specifics of this alert, you check the Sync log. Here's how.

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Time,
or in QuickBooks Online, go to Time, then Overview, and select Go to classic QuickBooks Time.
  2. Click on the QuickBooks dropdown.
  3. Then, View Sync Log.

After that, you should be able to see a Payroll mapping error. This type of error is referring to employees pay types and pay rates set up. But before we delve deeper into this, make sure you review your employees pay types and their pay rates in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Once that's done, map each the pay type to the member/employee in QuickBooks Time. Like this:

  1. Click on the QuickBooks dropdown, then Preferences.
  2. Select Payroll Item Mapping Tool.
  3. On Map Employees, select the employee's name.
  4. In each hour type column, select one payroll item for each. Selections are saved automatically.

If you use advanced overtime options, you’ll need to map any employee overtime payroll items within Pay Rate Engine Settings: Here's a link for the detailed steps: Map QuickBooks payroll items in QuickBooks Time.

If in any case you encounter other sync errors, you can use this resource as a reference: Fix an error when syncing hours between QuickBooks Time and QuickBooks Online.

If you run into any problems or have any questions or concerns about QuickBooks Time or other related issues, please leave a comment in this Community thread and I'll be happy to help.
