Reclassifying Payroll Expenses

Payroll expenses for a couple of my employees was incorrectly classified at Retirement Expense.  I'm attempting to use the 'Update Existing Transactions' feature & I'm getting an error message that there are too many transactions to update.  I'm going week by week to update these, but I'm stuck at one date.  There's transactions for only 3 employees that need to be update for this specific date.  That's too many transactions?!?  Is there another way to update these transactions?

Hi there, thebookkeepingmama.

I'm here to ensure you'll get the most updated transactions in your QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps. In some cases, unexpected behaviors from the program are caused by stored cache and site data in a browser. First, we can log in to a private browser to rule out the possibility of a browser issue.

Here are the shortcut keyboards:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Shift + N

If it works, I recommend clearing your browser's cache. Doing so will remove the historical data and access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also switch to a different supported browser.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They can pull up your account in a secure environment and provide fixes immediately.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner.
  2. Type in "Talk to a human", then press Enter.
  3. Look for I still need a human and click on it.
  4. Click Get help from a human or Contact Support Team.
  5. Select between Send a message, Schedule an appointment, or Get a callback.

I've added this article to learn how to manage your payroll accounting settings to track your payroll transactions: Change your accounting preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll.
