Resume Scheduled Payroll

Instead of "Pay Employees" and "Start Scheduled Payroll" (these are what normally appear) on my Pay Employees tab, it shows "Start Unscheduled Payroll" and "Resume Scheduled Payroll".  I have not missed a payroll, nor do I have one that is partially completed so I don't know why these options are showing up instead of my normal options.  This has been an  issue for several weeks.  I thought maybe after doing a few payrolls it would reset but it has not.  I have changed the settings on my Payroll Schedule to make sure they coincide with the current dates but still did not fix the issue.  Any thoughts?

Resume appears when you (or someone) started the scheduled payroll and didn't finish.

I know why it appears, just can't figure out how to make it go away since I don't have any payrolls that are not finished.

Thanks for letting us know your concern, ArchwayGraphic.

I can help you get rid of the Resume Scheduled Payroll option in your QuickBooks Desktop.

You'll get the resume payroll schedule alert when you started a scheduled payroll and clicking on finish later. Since you already updated your payroll schedule period and still getting the same prompt, let's try checking if there are pending items that needs to be reverted.

Here's how:

  1. Click Resume Scheduled Payroll. Right-click the employee's name, and select Revert Paycheck.
  2. When you're ready to send payroll, verify that your payroll is correct and that your employees are receiving the right amounts and the right number of checks.

Please check out this article to learn more about reverting paychecks in QuickBooks Desktop: How to save or revert pending paychecks.

That should do it. Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment below. I'm only a post away should you have any follow-up questions about the process.

I am having this same issue.  All my payrolls are complete and I have no "yellow" employees with pending checks to revert in the regular schedule or unscheduled payroll areas. I have ran rebuild with no errors. My issue is in Accountants Desktop 2021 version.  My paydate schedule is correct for next weeks pay, but has the "Resume Scheduled Payroll" button instead of the "Start Scheduled Payroll" button.  Thoughts?

Hello there, @cgreerwc.

I understand your concern about payroll only showing Resume Scheduled Payroll button instead of Start Scheduled Payroll button and that you cannot revert the paycheck since there are no yellow highlights in your employee's name. Rest assured, I'm here to help you fix this situation. We'll need to make sure QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release and updated tax table.

First, you'll need to try this on a sample company. If it works, we'll proceed to the second solution in fixing data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

If the same issue has occurred with the sample company, we'll need to repair your QuickBooks. Refer to this article for the advanced steps: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

Here's how:

  1. Download the latest version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Open the file.
  3. To install, follow the on-screen steps and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. Open the app once the installation finishes.
  5. Run a Quick Fix by selecting Program Problems.
