Since payroll services aren't available in QuickBooks Self-Employed, you'll need to upgrade to a QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop subscription to add a payroll service.
 

If you choose to subscribe to QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can create a late (backdated) paycheck from your Payroll screen.
 

Here's how:
 

  1. In the left navigation bar, go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Select Run payroll.
  3. If asked, choose a payroll schedule.
  4. Specify your Pay date and Pay period.
  5. Choose an employee and add their salary or hours worked.
  6. Pay method should be selected as Paper check.
  7. Preview and submit payroll.

 

In the event you choose to subscribe to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, your steps will be a bit different for creating backdated paychecks.
