Question

Salary Owner/Employee Hours Tracking

In QB Desktop I could setup the owner as salaried and still track hours worked for Worker's Comp tracking. In QBO it inflates the hours when importing from the Time module. For example I can enter 28.92 hours worked in Time but in Payroll it shows 86.67 hours. QB help says to treat them as hourly but that introduces the need to manually calculate their hourly rate (which doesn't really exist.) how do I fix this to eliminate the need for manually calculations?

Thank You

Thank you for raising your concern here, @SparkCV.

If you've entered hours for salaried employees, it's possible that you've imported the time entries from QB Time to QBO without replacing the existing time data, which could result in showing 86.67 hours. To correct this, you should select either the "Replace" or "Append" option for your time data.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Time account, then select Feature Add-ons in the left side corner of your screen.
  2. Choose either Punch Time Import or Manual Time Import.
  3. Go to the Help tab and review to make sure your data is entered correctly.
  4. I recommend downloading the sample manual time import.csv as a reference or to add your data to for importing.
  5. Once your data is in the correct format, save your CSV file.
  6. Navigate to the Import tab, select Browse, and choose your saved CSV file.
  7. Decide whether to Append or Replace your time data.
  8. Check the box next to Test Mode to run a test import and catch any potential errors, if it's already corrected then proceed in uploading your file again and Import without Test Mode checked.

For more detailed information when importing time entries, refer to this article: Export or import time data in QuickBooks Time.

Also, the feature to avoid manual calculations is not available in QuickBooks Online because it is functioning as intended. For salaried employees, QuickBooks calculates based on the specified amount per period, so it shouldn't display hours. As a workaround, you need to manually calculate the hourly rate and multiply it by the hours worked by your employees.

Moreover, you may want to print or reprint paychecks and pay stubs in QuickBooks Online Payroll.
