Scheduled payroll

Hello,

I had an employee ask if he could be paid a day early on Thursday and normal payroll is on Friday. I accidently hit the scheduled payroll instead of unscheduled payroll to pay him and now my payroll is set for next week and I still need to pay the rest of my employees tomorrow (Friday). How do I go about paying the rest of my employees if the scheduled payroll week is wrong. Also will the taxes be taken out the right way.

I'm here to ensure you can pay your employees on time, spd22.

Let's edit the pay period on paychecks that have not been transmitted to the payroll service.

Here's how:

  1. In the QuickBooks Desktop menu, select Employees.
  2. Select Edit/Void Paychecks.
  3. Find the paycheck/s that have the incorrect pay period and double-click the check to open.
  4. Click Paycheck Detail in the bottom right of the Paycheck Summary section.
  5. Change the dates in the Pay Period fields.
  6. Choose OK, then click Save & Close.
  7. Select Yes to record your changes.
  8. Repeat the steps for additional incorrect paychecks.

Also, having an incorrect pay period on your paychecks will not negatively affect your tax payments or filings.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Assisted, I'd suggest checking out this article to correct the dates: Incorrect Pay Period.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you keep track of your employee expenses in QuickBooks: Run Payroll Report.

Please keep us updated if you need additional assistance with the correction process. We want to make sure this gets resolved.

I hit Start Unscheduled Payroll instead of Scheduled Payroll and now it looks like I'm one payroll behind. Its reminding me to do the payroll I just did.  I changed the dates on my payroll checks to reflect the correct date but the reminder is still there to do the scheduled payroll. How do I help it roll forward to the next scheduled payroll?

@BD0991  First, open the Employees menu and open the Payroll Center, second option from the top.

Once the Payroll Center is open, you'll see four tabs; Pay Employees, Pay Liabilities, File Forms and Employee benefits. Click on Pay Employees.

There, you'll see a section of the Payroll Center called 'Create Paychecks' and at least one row for the Scheduled Payroll.

Select the Scheduled Payroll you want to fix, then click on the Payroll Schedules button to the lower left. The menu that opens will have a button called 'Edit Schedule'. Click that.

From there, you can adjust the pay period and other details as necessary to permanently advance your Scheduled Payrolls forward a week. This will probably involve just the Pay Period Ending Date and Payment Date fields.

That's it.
