Hello!

We use QB Desktop for all of our in house employees as well as our temps, but is there a way that I can create a separate QB account (desktop or online) with the same EIN? We have one of our inhouse employee run everybody's payroll, but I would like to be able to create a new account for just in house employees for pay rate confidentiality between them.

I can see your interest in creating a new QuickBooks account with the same Employee Identification Number (EIN), Steve.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), it's possible to use the same EIN for multiple accounts. However, we don't recommend this as it can cause issues with tax payment and filing. The system will display a notification stating that your tax ID is associated with another active account, which can create complications.

If you don't file taxes with QuickBooks and wish to proceed, here's how to create a separate account:

  1. Visit the QBO or QBDT pricing page.
  2. Select the subscription you prefer.
  3. Create a new Intuit account if you want a new one. Otherwise, click the Sign in link to connect your new company file to your existing account.
  4. Follow the on-screen procedure to continue.
