Hello, If I am a single-member LLC and need to issue 1099 to my contractor do I issue it using my SSN or my EIN? And do I use my LLC name on the form or my personal legal name? I have been told to do it both ways so I would like some clarification.

Thank you

Hi there, KKLLC.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be providing details on why your personal or correct information is important when issuing a 1099 to your contractor in QuickBooks Online. Then, I'll make sure you're directed to the appropriate support team to assist you further with this matter.

Having necessary details like SSN, EIN, and company name are essential for allocating a 1099 to your contractor in the program. Intuit requires those on a form to make sure everything is accurate when filing 1099 and to taxes stay accurate.

However, I recommend contacting the IRS because they have the tools to provide you with detailed information on which SSN and EIN details should be used in issuing 1099-NEC. Also, the LLC name or a personal legal name should be on the form.

Then, to ensure you have the correct data, you can run the 1099 Transaction Detail report. To do that, go to the Reports menu and select the mentioned statement.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see different details on how you can properly arrange your 1099 and prepare for the upcoming tax season so your taxes run smoothly: Get answers to your 1099 questions.
