I recently migrated from desktop to QB Online. For some reason, the state income tax deduction is not working. Whenever I run payroll, the amounts for MT state tax deduction are zero for all employees. How do I fix? All company and employee tax fields have been completed and Federal deductions as well as state UI seem to be working.

I want to ensure the state tax deduction works for your employees, NevaF.

Currently, we're investigating Montana (MT) state tax not deducted from employees in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Please be assured that our engineers are working diligently to resolve this problem.

I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team to be added to the affected users list for email updates on the investigation's status and resolution notification. To expedite the transaction, provide this investigation number INV-105306.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the (?) Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Click on I still need a human.
  5. Tap Contact Us to connect with our live support.
  6. Choose to Get a callback.

I've attached an article you can use about how to add, edit, and delete a deduction item in QuickBooks: Manage a payroll deduction item.

Additionally, there are several payroll reports you can run in QuickBooks. You can use them to view information about your business and employees.
