Question

State of Iowa no longer require Business eFile Number (BEN) and doesn't provide BEN post registration, but QuickBooks is asking for one. How have you dealt with QB?

Iowa decommissioned the use of 8-digit Business eFile Number (BEN) to eFile and Pay business taxes. Could you please advise on how we can override this on QB online.

Hello there, @TekHops.

I want to ensure you can e-file your Iowa taxes without entering the Business eFile Number (BEN), and I'd like to redirect you to the best support group available to get this override.

I understand that the state of Iowa no longer requires BEN, and we're already aware of this new update and working on a new Iowa withholding portal. While you're still required to enter this information, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can help bypass the field so you can continue filing your Iowa taxes. To reach them, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chatbox, select Talk to a human and choose I still need a human.
  4. Select Contact Us.

I'll add this article to know the complete details for Iowa payroll tax regulations: Payroll Tax Compliance.

Let me know how it goes, @TekHops. I'll make sure this concern is taken care of.

You may also want to run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online. This will help you view useful information about your business taxes and employees.

Wishing you all the best!

Hi Mark,

06/16/2022 - I did called the QB Online support to get help on bypassing the field so we can continue filing our Iowa taxes. QB Team provided No Work Around & No Solution.

Thank you!

So does this mean that QBO can't file the Iowa Income Taxes electronically for us since Iowa doesn't use the BEN? Do we need to do this manually or is QBO able to still file them?

Thanks for sharing your query here in the Community, @radiantprop.

We are unable to offer electronic filing for W-2 forms for Iowa at this time. We can give you the W-2 information for each employee to include in your state application. Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes and choose Payroll Taxes.
  2. Click Annual Forms.
  3. Click the W2 form link to get the data for each employee.

Here are some articles from the IOWA website about W-2 filing. One mentions electronic filing and W-2 text file uploads. The other one mentions submitting the W-2 information for each employee, which is an option you have. I really can't say for sure if this will apply to you. There can be conditions attached to using this choice. It would be better if you could talk to your state's agency about it.

Here are the links of the articles that I'm referring to:

Additionally, please know that we value every feedback you provide. Since I want to make sure your suggestion to have an e-file option for Iowa W-2s in QuickBooks Online get's to our product developers, I encourage to send this product suggestion straight to them. I'll be sure to do my part in raising this concern to our Developers so this will be taken care of. Also, you can submit feature requests through this link: http://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/forums/168199

I apologize I don't think I was very clear. My question was regarding the quarterly submittal of income taxes withheld not for submitting W-2's. However I'm assuming the answer is still the same
