Summarize P.R Data in Excel

Every time I run a P/R update the Summarize P/R data file in excel reverts to a file that includes sample data.  Contacted QB twice about it.  I know how to make it work but should not have to regenerate the file every time an update is completed.

I was on QB Desktop Pro 2022 and this morning updated to QB Desktop Pro 2023 and still have the same issue.

Also, does anyone know when forms will be updated?  Currently 2022 form are pulling and I need to run the Q1 2023 forms (941, FL & GA unemployment, etc.)

RE: Every time I run a P/R update the Summarize P/R data file in excel reverts to a file that includes sample data.

Yes, that's how it works. The template contains sample data before you run the reports, and then that data is replaced with your data.

If you mean that last bit isn't working - that the reports don't update - then that's not normal.  In that case are you getting an error message or see other issues when you try to update the reports?

After getting payroll updates, forms should be updated to the newest versions that are available from Intuit. That noted, they've been rather last minute about it lately. Not sure why.

The report runs, the first few tabs appear to be correct.  The State Wage listing pulls sample data.  I do not get an error message.  I have to go in manually delete the QB_Payroll_Link.xlt file.  Close QB, reopen which regenerates the file.  At that point it seems to run correctly.  Then if I run a P/R update the file reverts back to the file that pulls Sample data to the State Wage tab.

This did not start happening until this year.  I had Desktop Pro 2022 up until today when I upgraded to Desktop Pro 2023 which doing the exact same thing.  At some point QB must have done an update that is wonky and me having to manually correct every time I do a P/R update is not a good thing.

Then, here we are at March 15 and the 2023 quarterly report form for both State and Fed have not been updated.  State unemployment is due 4/1.

It's good to see you here today, VickieM.

Allow me to chime in and share details about the latest payroll updates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

You can get the most recent payroll news when you subscribe to QBDT Payroll. It includes the latest and most accurate rates and calculations for supported state and federal tax tables, payroll tax forms, and e-file.

The latest payroll updates were released on February 16, 2023, and there are no new forms updates as of the moment.

For more information, please see this article: Get the latest payroll news and updates in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Additionally, you can create a payroll summary report in QBDT to get insights about what you've paid out. It includes a quick view of your employees' taxes and contributions, which is helpful during the filing of taxes.

This happened to me as well! I just got off a one-hour+ call with support and they were unable to resolve it. I actually discovered (during the call... by google-ing the random employee names) that the data is from a QB sample company file. I did tell them that the problem started mid-January. I'm surprised that QB is so unaware of the issue and hasn't issued a fix for it yet.

Same with me!  I have the same issue with the State Wage Listing and Quarterly Excel reports - only the QB sample data employees show up!  Spent several hours on the phone and on-line with Quickbooks and still no solution to the problem!  Tried the Big Red Consulting fix - but it doesn't work with QB 2023??  Anyone have any other ideas?
