Switching over to a new payroll company

Hello,

I am switching over to quickbooks payroll.

At my prior payroll company, we run payroll biweekly.

My next payroll date to run is for 12/26/2022 to 01/06/2023 with paycheck on 01/13/2023.

My questions is how to handle this transition?

Do I finish this last paycheck with prior company? Or have them run check date of 12/26-12/31/2022 and then Run 01/01-01/06 on quickbooks? If I do this, how does it affect quarterly payroll tax filing?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Sandy

Hello there, SandyPEye.

Let's keep your payroll data accurate when switching to QuickBooks Payroll.

We can enter or set up prior payroll in QuickBooks to record the historical data from your previous payroll service or your old QuickBooks payroll account.

Since it's a new one, we can follow the steps below to enter your historical data.

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as the primary admin.
  2. Go to Payroll, and then select Overview.
  3. If you haven’t already, add all of your employees paid this year in the Tell us about your teamt ask. Include all employees that no longer work for you. Make sure to set up each pay item, deduction, contribution and tax showing on their pay stubs or reports.
  4. Next to Add your payroll history, select Start

For further guidance, have this article: Add pay history to QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Please know that the steps above only apply when we haven't run payroll yet in the new QuickBooks payroll. Otherwise, we'll need to contact our Payroll Support Team for further guidance. Go to the Help menu and select Contact us.

It's how our program handles the data during the transition. Once done, you can run the recent payroll. I'd also suggest consulting your accountant to seek further information on how it affects your quarterly payroll tax filing.
