I'm adding a new employee and now have to provide an occupational code.  I found it through helps in this program and input that number.  I checked it several times for accuracy and it is correct.  Quick Books is still calling the code invalid.  Why is this happening?

Hello there. Welcome to the Community.

I can see the urgency of getting your payroll issue resolved. Let me route you to the best support who can help check why QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP) is rejecting your new employee's occupational code.

Since the Community is a public forum, and we'll need to collect some personal information to pull up your account, I encourage you to reach out to our Payroll Care team. They can create a case to trigger an investigation regarding the validity of employees' occupational codes and guide you with a fix. To do this, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message or Get a callback).

Whenever you're ready to set up occupational codes for your employees, you can refer to this article for the complete guide: Set up occupational codes for employees.

Also, you can pull up several payroll reports to view information about your business' finances and employees in QBOP. You may want to check out this article for the complete list and to guide you on how to access and customize them: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Let me know if you have other payroll concerns or questions about managing employees in QBOP. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.
