Transition from QBO Payroll to QBDT Payroll

Hi,

We are transitioning from QBO to QBDT Enterprise. Everything has moved over with the exception of payroll that will move 1/1/2024.

Anyone move from QBO payroll to QBDT payroll and have any lessons learned or tips before I jump into this?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Community, empower_elizabeth.

After setting up your payroll in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can export payroll data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll into QBDT.

If you're using a Core, Premium, or Elite plan without accounting (standalone payroll), you may have another company file. You can use this file for your accounting without payroll being turned on. To keep the file updated, you'll be able to export payroll transactions to QBDT using Intuit Interchange Format (IIF).

You'll want to be aware that your export connection on the standalone payroll will expire if you have payroll attached to your QBO account.

The payroll account preferences you set up can be changed at any time. Each time you process payroll, you'll see an option to export the most recent payroll you processed. Any other time, you can export all payroll transactions or individual paychecks.

After selecting Export or Export selected paychecks, an .IFF file will be downloaded to your computer. Intuit recommends not opening the IIF file, instead it can be imported.

Here's how:

  1. In QBDT, go to File, then Utilities.
  2. Choose Import and click Import IIF.
  3. Pick your IIF file, then hit Open. Downloads are usually located in the Downloads folder on Windows, unless you save them elsewhere.
  4. Select OK.

I've also included a detailed resource about exporting payroll data from QBO to QBDT which may come in handy moving forward: Export your payroll data into QuickBooks
