Trying to print payroll tax forms, but can't get past "You'll need to pay some taxes that were due before you started using QuickBooks Online Payroll" message

I'm trying to print federal tax forms from QB Online for the first time.

On the "Payroll Tax Center" screen, I see the message "Reconcile tax history...You'll need to pay some taxes that were due before you started using QuickBooks Online Payroll".

When I click the "Review" link provided, the page just refreshes without providing any new information.

The other fields on the page ("Action Needed", "Coming Up", "Done") all say "All caught up" or equivalent.

Advice on how to proceed?

Hi there, flatos.

I understand the importance of using QuickBooks Online Payroll service. Rest assured I'm here to help you resolve this so you can start using our payroll service.

If you've already paid taxes outside QuickBooks Online Payroll but it's still showing as a tax due on your payroll product, you'll need to record the payment even if it's not listed.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, then Payroll Tax.
  2. Choose the Payments tab.
  3. Select Record tax payments (prior tax history).
  4. Click Add Payment.
  5. Choose a Tax Type, then enter the following:
    • Period Start Date and Period End Date - the period that the taxes were accrued.
    • Payment Date.
    • Check Number (optional).
    • Memo (optional).
    • Payment Amount.

6. Click Submit payment.

If everything looks good, we'll proceed to the next step. Let me guide you on troubleshooting your browser to ensure it runs with QuickBooks efficiently. Let's start with accessing QuickBooks Online using incognito mode or a private window.

Here are the shortcut keys to go private mode in a browser:

For Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Opera:

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mac: Command ⌘ + Shift + N

For Firefox:

  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Mac: Command ⌘ + Shift + P

For Safari:

  • Shift + Command ⌘ + N

If this works, you can proceed to clear your browser's cache and cookies. If the problem persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Payroll support team so they can investigate this further.

Furthermore, you can learn how to set up your company payroll for direct deposit to pay your employees and contractors in QuickBooks Online Payroll.
