How do I bypass QB Online Payroll setup so I can run payroll today. All my active employees are already entered but an inactive employee is blocking me. He's inactive on my QB Desktop Pro Plus. How do I get rid of him on QB Online?

Hello there, @jsrclerk.

I'm here to help set up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) payroll so you can start running payroll.

Please know that when setting up prior payroll in QBO, you'll need to include all employees paid in the current calendar year, including inactive employees. It's possible that you haven't included the employee that's why QuickBooks is stopping you from completing the setup.

To know the step-by-step process of setting up prior payroll, you can read through this article: Set up a prior payroll for QuickBooks Online Payroll.

If you're having difficulty following the steps and want to bypass the setup, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Payroll Team. This way, they can guide you through the process. They can also help you bypass the setup by deleting the inactive employee on the system. To reach them, please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chatbox, select Talk to a human and choose I still need a human.
  4. Select Contact Us.

Once everything is set, you can now process payroll in QBO. For more guidance, feel free to check out this article: Process or run payroll.

Should you need any assistance processing payroll in QuickBooks Online, I'm available here to help any time!
