Turning off the sales tax based on location is a great functionality, agm0910.

QuickBooks Online automatically calculates the overall tax rate for each sale using these criteria:

  • Where you sell and ship
  • The tax-exempt status of your customer
  • The tax classification of your service or product

As of now, the option to turn off this feature is unavailable. I'd recommend creating a custom sales tax instead. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Click on Sales tax settings.
  3. From the Custom rates section, choose Add rate.
  4. Click on Single or Combined.

For more details, please see this article: Use Custom Rates to Calculate Taxes on Invoices or Receipts.

I also encourage sending feedback directly to our Product Development team. This helps us improve the features in the program. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click on Next.
