I have gone into my Payroll Item List and updated our Unemployment Tax Rate for 2021 but it doesn't allow me to update the Taxable Wage Base per employee. It is still showing last years wage base.

Hey there, NorthsireTire.

I'm happy to help you out with information on our latest payroll updates including the Taxable wage base. I've checked our last payroll update, and it appears we haven't updated the rates and limits yet. There will be another payroll update later this month to address the updated wage base. Once updated, QuickBooks will automatically pro-rate based on payrolls that have been ran already this year, so you won't need to worry about manually changing any information.

I suggest checking out our latest payroll news and updates for updated information on what was updated and addressed in our recent updates.

If there's anything else I can do to help, please, don't hesitate to post here anytime. Thanks and I hope you have an excellent day.

The SUTA for 1st Q 2021 appears to have been calculated with the wrong taxable wage base for Missouri.  I have one employee who went over the limit in March.  The limit is supposed to the $11,000 but it calculated the tax on $10,000.  How do I correct?

Hello, @JanetS

Thanks for joining in on this thread. I appreciate you coming to the Community with your question about SUTA for the first quarter of 2021.

I can give you some information to help resolve this problem.

Note:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Assisted: Contact us at 888.712.9702 if you need wage base adjustment on taxes filed by Intuit.
  • QuickBooks Payroll Basic, Standard, and Enhanced: Running the Payroll Checkup will not automatically correct the wage base.

However, I recommend going through this guide on using a wage base adjustment to correct this information: Entering wage base and tax adjustment to correct employee's quarter (qtd) or year to date (ytd) total.

This information should get you back on track. If you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Wishing you and your business continued success!
