Verifying Direct Deposit Bank for payroll

How long after seeing this message should I see the debit from my bank account? I signed up for enhanced payroll yesterday and did the work to connect my bank.

"We're getting your bank account ready

We’ll debit less than $1 from your bank. Once you see the debit appear on your bank statement, log in to QuickBooks to enter the debit amount and finish verifying your bank account: "

I'm trying to run payroll ASAP, and I'd like to know if this will be hours or days before I can run it.

Hi there, @kingaaronj.

Good to see you here in QuickBooks Community. I'm here to help and provide some insights about Direct Deposit in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

After signing up a Direct Deposit, Intuit makes two small withdrawals of less than $1.00 each from the bank account you set up. A test transaction should appear in your bank account in 2 business days. You can verify the amount either by checking your bank statement online or by calling your bank.

Once done, you'll need to confirm the test transaction amount to completely activate your Direct Deposit. Let me walk you through the steps:

  1. From the left menu, select Workers.
  2. Click the Employees.
  3. Select Finish payroll tasks on the main Employees page.
  4. Click Verify the test deposit now.
  5. Enter the test transaction amount in both boxes (less than $1.00). Enter the pennies only, without a dollar sign or decimal point.
  6. Click OK

For additional reference, you can check these articles to learn more about Direct Deposit:

If you need further assistance with the steps, I encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They have additional tools to pull up your account and do a remote session.

That should do it! Don't hesitate to click the Reply button below if you have any other concerns about Direct Deposit. I'm always here to help you out.

Hi Jany,
This information seems to be out of date. There is no menu option that says "workers" only one that says "employees." Inside that menu item there is no "finish payroll tasks."

Hello there, @Martiux. I'd be delighted to provide some information about verifying your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO makes two small withdrawals of less than $1.00 each from the bank account you set up after you sign up for Direct Deposit. In two business days, a test transaction should show up in your bank account. You can verify the amount either by checking your bank statement online or by calling your bank.

After that, you can confirm the amount and activate your Direct Deposit by following these steps. For QBO Payroll Enhanced:

  1. Select the Payroll menu, then Employees.
  2. Click Finish payroll tasks on the main Employees page.
  3. Select Verify the test deposit now.
  4. Enter the test transaction amount in both boxes (less than $1.00). Enter the pennies only, without a dollar sign or decimal point.

If the New payroll tasks option isn't available, here's another way to verify test transactions:

  1. Select Settings  ⚙, then choose Payroll Settings
  2. Under Bank Accounts, select Company.
  3. Click Verify Account, then enter and confirm the amount.

Please keep in mind that you will only be given one attempt to verify your test transaction. If you aren't successful, contact Payroll Support for assistance.

Follow the steps in this article for additional QBO Payroll versions: How to verify a test transaction made to your bank account

Additionally, after you've successfully activate direct deposit, you can refer to the support articles below for running your payroll:
