Question

Wage Garnishment with QB Desktop and Minimum Exemption

I am trying to set up a wage garnishment on QuickBooks Desktop and have followed the directions, but I can't find a way to have the minimum exemption calculated into the mix.  It is set to take 25% of net, but it needs to be 25% of net OR not more than what would leave the employee with $545.  I see in the Q&A there's a way in QBO to do this... has this been left off QBD or am I missing something?

Hello there, @Chehalem Ridge.

Currently, we're unable the minimum exemption included with the wage garnishment calculation in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

In the meantime, you can share your thoughts and ideas about this matter through your account. Our product development team reviews all the feedback we receive to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click Product Suggestion.
  4. Choose a feedback type and product area on the QuickBooks Feedback window.
  5. Enter your feedback, name, and email address (optional).
  6. Once done, click on the Send Feedback button.

Additionally, QuickBooks Desktop has a payroll tax wage limit, while QuickBooks Online has a maximum and actual amount. Check this link for more information: Understand payroll tax wage bases and limits.

I've also add this article for future reference: How to use QuickBooks to pay payroll taxes and other liabilities.

I'm always here if you need further assistance in setting up wage garnishment in QuickBooks, @Chehalem Ridge. Have a great day.
