Washington Paid Family Medical Leave - not calcluating correctly

I have ran the payroll update for 2022, which updated the percentages of the Washington Paid Family Medical Leave to the .6% that it should be. I have also updated my employees percentages to the 73.22%. The amount being taken out is incorrect, and is too high. 

 

Example: 

Employee is making $1200 for the paycheck. The amount being taken for the employee portion should be $5.27. It is taking an even $6. 

 

How could I go about figuring out why it is taking the incorrect amount out? It is doing this for all of my employees.

I can see that you've already performed all the necessary troubleshooting steps from your previous post. Since you've already updated the rates in the employee profile and the tax table, please proceed with contacting our Payroll Support Team.

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Help tab at the top menu bar.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help. 
  4. Enter your concern, then hit Continue.
  5. Choose Get a callback.

Joe Park Construction, did you ever get this resolved? I've had the same issue and QB payroll support was not able to help. I've been manually correcting the PMFL tax every payroll, otherwise it calculates both the old 63.33 rate and the new 73.22 rate. It won't recognize the change to the new rate in the employee other tab for taxes.

I'd like to turn the tables around and help you fix the PFML tax calculation issue in QuickBooks. 

 

You might have already done this during your call with our support but let's do the following steps to fix the rate calculations. 

 

Make sure to have the latest payroll update if you haven't done so already. This will ensure that all updated related to the tax rates are implemented in the program:

 

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then select Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Check the Download Entire Update box.
  3. Click Download Latest Update. 

 

If it still doesn't recognize the new the rate, then this might be related to your payroll items. You mentioned that it calculates the new and old rates when you run payroll. 

 

You'll want to verify and check the rates on the payroll item itself by going to Lists, then select Payroll Item Lists. Find and open the PMFL item and verify the rates. 

 

Now, go back to one of your employee's profile and go to the Other tab again. Highlight the payroll item and click the Delete button, then hit OK. 

 

Open the employee's profile again and reassign the PFML item list, then hit OK. This will refresh the tax rates under that employee. Process and run payroll to check on the calculated amounts. 

 

If you need to check on your employees' payroll data, you can pull up a specific report. Simply click the Reports menu, hover on Employees & Payroll, then select a report.

We're done with quickbooks payroll. At every single turn, something is either impossible to do (multiple workers comp rates on the same paycheck), impossible to fix (support when payroll corrections are needed is infuriating), or just dead wrong. The WA paid family/medical leave is very straightforward. 0.74% of gross; our company pays nothing (only 3 employees), and the employee is responsible for 71.43% of that. I have an excel spreadsheet to check quickbooks' calculations (because it didn't take long to learn that they can't be trusted), and the value was off by 2 cents. Next with a calculator to double check...same result. I went to the paidleave.wa.gov premium estimator...same result again. Our rates are current. The calculation is not hard. Quickbooks online just sucks. And y'all have the nerve to raise rates and show ads in a service that I pay for? Good luck to everyone who has to continue suffering in this hell....
