Question

We are running into error messages when filing the NYS-45 that NFP organizations can't file through QB if their NYS UI # starts with anything other than a 4. Does anyone know anything about this?

The error message you've encountered indicates that QuickBooks detects incorrect or incomplete NYS UI # when e-filing, KTorello. I'll offer you a comprehensive explanation and guidance to resolve it.

I recommend contacting your agency for clarification. It’s important to ensure that you have accurately entered the Unemployment Insurance (UI) number, as any discrepancies can lead to issues in processing. Additionally, please double-check whether the UI number is indeed required to start with the number 4, as this could be a specific requirement for your state or agency.

If it turns out that the number doesn't need to start with 4, I recommend filing your form directly with your agency and then manually recording it in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

For more information on New York State's unemployment insurance requirements, feel free to visit this page: Employer Unemployment Insurance Information.

Moreover, if you want to manually file payroll taxes and form in QBDT Payroll, please read this article: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms manually in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.
