Question

We have a catering venue where we automatically add 18% gratuity. Can we set up Quickbooks Online to automatically calculate the gratuity based on the total?

The 18% gratuity is agreed upon in our contract with customers. We would like to have this total identified separately on the customer's invoice.

Good morning, mroberts1.

Thanks for bringing your question forward here in the Community. I'd be glad to lend a hand so you're able to add tips to invoices in QuickBooks Online.

This can be done by creating a separate service item. Here's how to get this done in just a few simple steps:

1. Click the +New button in the left navigation menu.

2. Select Invoice.

3. Enter all of the details for the invoice.

4. Below the Product/Service section, choose +Add New, and select Service.

5. Enter Tip as the name, then choose Undistributed Tips under the Income account drop-down.

6. Click Save and close when you're finished.

You'll then be able to record the tip amount on the current invoice and use the tip service item on future invoices. I recommend the following article for even more info about using tips on sales forms in QuickBooks Online.

Please feel free to reach back out in the comments if you have any other questions. Take care!
