Question

We have employees that are on-call and are paid depending on how many clients they tend for the whole 2weeks so their pay varies every month How do I put that in payroll?

I'll help you set up your payroll, Charise.

You can set up your employees' pay as a commission type. This way, you can pay them based on their performance or completion of a task. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Payroll menu in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Click the Employees tab,
  3. Select the employee's name.
  4. Click the edit pencil icon next to Pay.
  5. In the How much do you pay employee? section, select the Pay type menu and choose Commission Only
  6. Then click Save to save the changes.
  7. Repeat the steps for your other employees'.

You can also see this link for more details about the process: Pay employees a commission.

Let me also add this article that serves as your guide in case you want to invite your employees to view their pay stubs online: Invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to see pay stubs, W-2s and more.

I'm always here to back you up if you need more help setting up your employees in QBO. Please feel free to tag me in your reply and I'll take care of it for you. Have a good one and keep safe!
