Question

When I click on Pay taxes (Payroll tax) there is no entry field to enter the date of payment. It defaults to the present date. How can I set the date?

I actually pay the Taxes manually at the IRS EFTPS site.  Works fine.  I would like to have QBO payroll show the same date in the Banking register.  I had no problem before, but it looks like a new process.

I've got you covered, @octoberfermen. I'll outline a couple of handy details to help you with editing your tax payment date.

Since you're paying your taxes manually at the IRS EFTPS site, we can edit those prior payments. I'll guide you on how:

  1. Go to Taxes, select Payroll Tax, and choose Tax payment history.
  2. Choose a date range, then select Run Report.
  3. Select the payment you want to change, then select Edit.
  4. Make the necessary changes, then choose OK.

However, please know that we're unable to edit those payments once they've already been processed. Thus, I'd suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Online Payroll team. This way, they can pull up your account in a safe environment and help you with the best process to edit those tax payments.

Please check out this article for more details about entering tax payments made for prior periods. This also includes the process of entering your prior payroll history, as well as any tax payments you've made outside the payroll system: Recording prior tax payments.

I'll be around if you need further assistance with your payroll taxes. I'm very eager to help. Take care always!
