Question

When running payroll, I ran it under the wrong pay period. Checks were written and one was already cashed. How do I correct this error?

Let me help you correct the paycheck with the wrong pay period in QuickBooks Online (QBO), weatheredanchors.

With QuickBooks Online, if you're modifying the pay period of your already-created paycheck, we're unable to change those checks. If the paycheck in question is created via the paper check method, we can delete the existing one and recreate a new employee paycheck as a workaround. To do this, you can review all the paychecks that you've created from the Paycheck List. Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll and click Employees.
  2. Click the Paycheck list.
  3. Select the paycheck(s) you'd like to delete or void. Then select Delete.
  4. Press Yes.

Once done, recreate the paychecks with the correct pay periods. You can check out this article for more detailed information: Edit, delete, or void employee paychecks. However, if the payroll created is a direct deposit paycheck, you'll have to contact our Payroll Care Team. From there, one of our specialists has the tools needed to fix the pay period in the created paycheck. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Help icon to connect to a live support agent.
  2. Provide us with some information about your concern.
  3. Click on the Talk to the human button.
  4. Select the Contact Us button and provide some details about this concern, then on the Let's talk button.
  5. You'll now be provided options on how to connect to our Customer Support.
